Aboriginal subsistence economies, comprehensive land claims and resource development
Lead researcher: David Natcher, University of Saskatchewan (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The social and economic implications of the comprehensive land claim system in comparative perspective, as well as increased resource benefits to communities.
Three main priorities were identified for research on gaps related to land claims and subsistence harvesting. These are: establishing an inventory of northern subsistence studies; researching whether land claims agreements have created greater or lesser certainty in relation to Aboriginal harvesting rights; and developing new models to locally monitor wildlife harvesting.
