The research that has been done in examining the development and impacts of Impact Benefit Agreements in Canada and whether comparisons can be made with other Arctic jurisdictions. This work will build on the Knowledge Gap analysis done by the IBA Research Network.

IBAs are today institutionalized and are required before developing a mine. There are, however, many gaps that exist. In this gap analysis, broad themes that will be explored include: the legal basis of IBAs; IBA negotiation and implementation; IBA effectiveness; IBAs and regulatory processes; and IBAs and social justice.
